My
parents/school say i cant have locks, what to do!?!
Turning away from a pile
of paper work Dr Edd Says.....
This is unfortunatly a problem that many young people have
when starting their dreadlocks and here is my advice on the two seperate
matters:-p
Parents
The best
thing you can do with parents is keep calm and be sensible! If you through
a tantrum or whine like a typical teenager then you arent going to get anywhere!
Keep it calm, keep a sensible tone and simply enquire why your parents dont
want you to have locks and make sure you are well educated enouch to have
a reasonable and non sarcastic come back to all of their doubts and worrys!
Generaly speaking if you can show somone that you can be mature then they
are going to treat you as such, where if you show somone otherewise then
you are not going to!
My mother never like my dreadlocks, inface she detested them but she now
realises what they mean to me and i dont even hear a negative whimper from
her anymore and as for my dad - well he thought i looked better with them
then i did without so i was quite lucky in that sense. Just keep it calm,
be polite and ease their fears and your more likely to get your way and
in the long run your parents will probably grow to love your locks anyway.
Schools
Schools
are tricky things, if one teacher doesnt like your locks (even if the rest
do) then the chances are that there is going to be a load of fuss. The best
thing you can do is go and see the head teacher on your own accord and explain
the situation before they even realise that a situation exists! Explain
to them why you want your locks and what they mean to you and why you think
its only reasonable that you should be allowed them, after all you spend
1/3 of your life - infact probably less than that at school so its grossly
unfair that they dictate to you what you can and cant do in the rest of
you waking hours! Follow this advice, keep calm, keep level headed and your
make it through:-p
